قادني التفكير في هذه المسألة إلى سؤال أمره حيَّر المترجمين والكتَّاب:
ما الترجمة العربية الدقيقة للكلمات الآتية وفقَ التعريف الذي يلي كل كلمة:
(ملاحظة: التعريفات كلها من قاموس أكسفورد إلا ما أشير فيه إلى غير ذلك.)
1- Situation
Definition: A set of circumstances in which one finds oneself; a state of affairs.
Example: ‘The worst of the economic crisis may be over, but the political situation is far from decided.’
2- Condition
Definition: A set of circumstances in which one finds oneself; a state of affairs.
Example: ‘The bridge is in an extremely dangerous condition.’
3- Conditions
Definition: The circumstances or factors affecting the way in which people live or work, especially with regard to their well-being.
Example: ‘Difficult social and economic conditions are not regarded as grounds for granting asylum, Ask said.’
4- State
Definition: The particular condition that someone or something is in at a specific time.
Example: ‘The property market is in a poor state.’
5- Circumstance
Definition: (usually circumstances) A fact or condition connected with or relevant to an event or action.
Example: ‘We wanted to marry but circumstances didn't permit.’
6- Status
Definition: Relative social or professional position; standing.
{(Longman Dictionary): the official legal position or condition of a person, group, country etc.}
Example: ‘Legal status and refugee status determination in UNHCR depends on…’
7- Case
Definition: An instance of a particular situation; an example of something occurring.
Example: ‘In many cases farmers do have a deep feeling for their lan.’
8- Con****
Definition: The circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood.
Example 1: ‘In the Eritrean con****, detention or prison is practiced for the aim of correcting and rehabilitation a citizen.’
Example 2: ‘The political con**** of the election.’
Example 3: ‘The proposals need to be considered in the con**** of new European directives.’
